Dentistry for Children
Caring for children’s teeth since 1994
It takes a special type of care to make young children feel comfortable at the dentist and we want to ensure that every child we treat not only receives high quality dental services, but also has a positive experience. Dr Gizelle has over 20 years experience in children’s dentistry and is gentle and caring with every patient that comes to see us.
Together we will find the right treatment for your children
Dr Gizelle believes in preventative dental care while children are young to keep their teeth and gums healthy through their teenage years. All of the baby teeth usually appear by age 3, so taking children to see the dentist from the age of 3-4 years old is very important in establishing good oral health through childhood and the teenage years.
Should your child need further dental treatment, we will discuss the different options available and give you all the information you need to help decide what’s right for your family.
What to expect at your child’s dental check-up apppointment
A comprehensive exam of the teeth and gums for any problems, as well as teeth cleaning and polishing
Fluoride treatment to strengthen tooth enamel and resist decay
Dental sealants to provide a further layer of protection against cavities
Advice on good brushing technique as well as discussion of a fun oral care regime that encourages your child to brush more regularly
Thumb sucking by babies and toddlers is natural and should not be a cause for concern. However, if your child continues to suck his or her thumb when adult teeth start to appear (usually around ages 6 to 7), it can lead to long term dental and orthodontic problems.
Trainers are non-intrusive appliances that can be used to stop persistent thumb sucking. They are suitable for children from 6 years of age. If you are concerned about your child’s thumb sucking, please make an appointment today.
